Plainfield Used Cars - Serving Lansing, MI
While it is not the largest city in the state, Lansing is the capital of Michigan, which means there is a lot of history and culture to be found in the community of Lansing. If visitors who come to the Lansing area keep their eyes open, they are certain to find something that will interest them.
As the state capital, Lansing has a history that dates back to the earliest days of Michigan itself. In fact, the story of Lansing begins long before Michigan was even a state. The area that is now Lansing was first discovered by frontier explorer Hugh Heward in the late 1700s. After the discovery of the fertile land along the bank of the Grand River, settlers began to come from far and wide to make the area their new home. It soon became one of the largest settlements in the Michigan territory. Therefore, it is not surprising that 10 years after Michigan became a state, Lansing became its capital.
As the population of Lansing began to grow, so did its economy. Lansing was especially renowned for its success in the automotive industry, with companies such as the Olds Motor Vehicle Company and REO Motor Car Company creating headquarters in the city. Today, Lansing continues to be a center for much of Michigan’s economy.
Lansing also serves as a cultural center for the state of Michigan. One of the state’s largest colleges, Michigan State University, is located in the city. Other attractions, such as the Potter Park Zoo, draw visitors to the surrounding area.
In the past, present, and future, Lansing has served and will serve as the heart of Michigan.
